About Asif Uzzaman

A graduate fellow in English literature, working in the area of nation and the novel form, in terms of the contemporary configuration of their relationship in the South Asian context. I draw my theoretical understanding on the subject from the canon of Postcolonial studies and history writing of the Subaltern Collective. Since the primary resource for my study comes from South Asian literature in English, I draw my understanding on the subject from literary historians and critics writing in this field. My Masters dissertation, written at the Centre for English Studies, JNU on the theoretical relevance of the concept of 'Postnation' in understanding contemporary South Asian fiction was supervised by Prof. Udaya Kumar. As a doctoral researcher, I aim to build on the theoretical work undertaken during my Masters. As a researcher in the early phase of my career, I have presented papers in conferences organised by Aligarh Muslim University, Central University of Hyderabad, Visva-Bharti University, and IIT Kanpur. Some of my papers on the subject of the nation and the study of literature are due publication later in this and next year. As an academic, I plan to create impact in the study of South Asian literature in terms of introducing a theoretical rigour which I deem necessary in the wake of postcritical turn which literary studies has taken in many places.
