Background
About Asma Shaikh
Microbiologist | Assistant Professor | Researcher I am a dedicated microbiologist with a passion for advancing the field through research, teaching, and mentorship. As an experienced Assistant Professor, I have had the privilege of shaping the minds of aspiring microbiologists and teaching a wide range of subjects, including Basic Bacteriology, Microbial Physiology, Soil and Water Microbiology, Environmental Microbiology, Virology, Mycology, Food-Dairy Microbiology, and Agriculture Microbiology. During my tenure as an Assistant Professor, I also had the opportunity to teach Microbiology to Masters and undergraduate students at Sardar Patel University and Gujarat University Affiliated colleges. In addition to teaching advanced topics, I served as a dissertation mentor, guiding students in their research endeavors. Under my mentorship, students conducted research on important subjects such as the screening and diversity of Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) from the rhizosphere of Catharanthus roseus, the characterization of rhizobacterial isolates and their effect on wheat growth promotion, and the investigation of chickpea response to seed inoculation with Bacillus spp. Apart from teaching, I actively engage in cutting-edge research. My Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) research focused on the biocontrol potential of Bacillus spp, where I isolated PGPR from soil rhizosphere and evaluated their biocontrol activity against phytopathogens. This research contributed to the development of an effective biocontrol agent, promoting sustainable agriculture practices as an alternative to chemical fertilizers. In my Master of Science (M.Sc) research, I explored the microbial decolorization of Acid red 119 dyes, investigating the potential of microbial consortia in treating industrial dye-contaminated water. These research experiences have enhanced my analytical skills and deepened my understanding of microbial processes, fueling my commitment to addressing environmental challenges through innovative solutions. As I embark on the next phase of my career, I am eager to leverage my expertise in microbiology, research, and teaching to make a meaningful impact. I am open to new opportunities that allow me to collaborate with like-minded professionals, contribute to scientific advancements, and address global challenges. With my dedication, passion, and diverse skill set, I am committed to promoting sustainable practices, exploring novel applications of microbiology, and inspiring the next generation of microbiologists.
