About Asterios Leonidis

Asterios Leonidis holds a Ph.D. in Information Systems and Human-Computer Interaction and an M.Sc. in Information Systems from the Department of Computer Science, University of Crete. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Crete and an Affiliated Faculty Member at the Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory of FORTH-ICS, where he has been active since 2007. His research interests are in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), with a focus on the design and evaluation of interactive technologies that permeate everyday life. Current research themes include Extended Reality (XR), Human-Centered AI (HCAI), Ambient Intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), Smart cities, Digital Accessibility, cultural heritage, and education- Within the broader HCI domain, his work examines how interaction design can support usability, accessibility, adaptivity, and inclusivity in emerging systems. He is particularly interested in implicit and explicit interaction techniques, natural interaction, and AI-driven methods that enhance human–technology engagement. These research perspectives extend to application areas such as cultural heritage, digital accessibility, and education, where interactive technologies play a transformative role in fostering learning, collaboration, and participation. The overarching aim is to advance understanding of the evolving relationship between humans and technology and to inform the design of interactive systems that are both innovative and socially meaningful.
