About Astrid Bucio

I am passionate about international development issues as they relate to education, health and poverty alleviation. For the past seven years I have been acting as the Director of the Global Health Program of a Canadian professional medical association. In that position, I collaborated with the CEO and the Council for an effective implementation of the strategic plan adopted, ensuring that the Global Health Program was aligned with the organization's core mission. I led the Global Health Program with the support of a team consisting of 8-10 managers. I led the consolidation of the program through the development of knowledge, expertise, culture and competencies which resulted in a greater international recognition of the organization. I supported the development of strategic partnerships with peer associations in developing countries, NGOs, universities and training institutions through meaningful collaboration. I helped to create a working environment that was fair and stimulating for staff, volunteers and partners. Before this recent work, I held a position of social sector specialist with the Inter-American Development Bank, based first five years in Paraguay and then 4 years in Mexico. I also worked two and half years with the United Nation Development Program (UNDP) in the Dominican Republic.
