About Atefeh Maghzi

Organisational research has long explored why some organizations perform better than others, particularly in an uncertain environment. In contributing to this field of scholarship, I have developed a scholarly interest and commitment to improve our understanding of how managerial cognitions are related to organizational capabilities and firm performance. More specifically, I am interested in better understanding the interplay of the environmental conditions with the specific decision-making approaches that managers draw on (i.e, heuristic versus deductive reasonings) in order to make decision and take action in an uncertain landscape. The dominant lens through which I investigate my interest is heuristic reasoning (simple rule) through incorporating the insights of psychology research on ecologically rational heuristics and entrepreneurship. While, I strive to advance theoretical thinking, I also put the proposed conceptual arguments to empirical testing. In my empirical research I integrate various techniques of quantitative and qualitative analyses. More specifically, I am doing text analysis employing both manual and computer-aided approaches. My research involves multiple data sources, and in particular secondary data including quarterly earning call transcripts and financial data.
