About Aubrey L Bulkeley

I am intrigued by the world around me and love learning. This has influenced both of my careers. I currently work as a general assignment reporter for KLCC and was previously an international educator. My journalism interests are conflict, crisis, and cross-cultural reporting. My master's project explored the continued impact the Thurston High School shooting has on survivors. I have also covered COVID-19 and Black Lives Matter protests in my area. To better understand how to deal with complicated topics and the different perspectives that join them, I took additional coursework in Conflict Resolution. I also attended a Solutions Journalism conference to equip journalists with tools to cover controversial and polarized topics. In the seven years I taught internationally, I lived in Germany, Peru and South Korea. Please don't make me choose which is my favorite. Each experience helped me explore how growing up in the US influenced me. Interacting with the people from each country also taught me new ways of thinking and moving through the world. Living internationally made me more aware of people's needs in the world. My desire and passion to meet those needs have continued to increase over the years, especially as the political and social climate in the US have intensified. I hope to use my experience and skill to positively impact the issues facing humanity.
