About Auburn Brown

Auburn Brown is a Defense / Policy Analyst at RAND. Her research interests include US - China Counterspace Capabilities, Beijing's Foreign Policy Perspectives, the Sustainability of Space, US Deterrence and Adversary Posturing in the Indo-Pacific, and Conflict Analysis of Weak / Failed States. Prior to joining RAND, Auburn has worked as a researcher for Lord Anthony Giddens in UK Parliament. She analyzed the geopolitical implications of the War in Ukraine for the UK and EU and determined possible mitigation techniques for existential crises facing humanity including Space Traffic and Debris Management, Climate Change, and Nuclear Weapons issues. She has a background in NROTC wherein she studied Maritime Strategy and Intelligence Studies focusing on nuclear proliferation. She holds intermediate proficiency in both Chinese and Arabic and is a recipient of both the State Department's Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship awarded for study of Arabic in Fes, Morocco and the US DoD Project GO critical language scholarship received for the study of Mandarin Chinese in Shanghai, China. Auburn holds a MSc in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science, focusing on East Asian geopolitics, with a dissertation analyzing the impact of the US - China competition on space sustainability. She holds a BA in International Studies with a focus on MENA from the University of Florida. Auburn perseveres in an attempt to satisfy her curiosity of the world through continued cultural travel, practicing of Mandarin and Arabic, rock climbing, and remote backpacking and holds to the proverb!إذا هَبَّتْ رياحُكَ فاغّتَنمْها
