Background
About Audrey Baca Lopez
My name is Dr. Audrey Baca Lopez (she/her). I am a first-generation student, who identifies as Latina-mama-scholar, from the Inland Empire. I am a servant-leader and I prioritize my students' success as scholars. I enjoy teaching and helping students learn about new perspectives. In my down time, I love spending time with family (including my new baby!), taking my dogs for a walk, listening to music and dancing. In 2022, I was hired at Mt. San Jacinto College (San Jacinto Campus). And now I get to teach a variety of English courses (like College Composition and Critical Thinking) and Multiethnic Literature (LIT 280/ETHS 280). I love connecting students to campus resources like our Accommodation Service Center and Veterans Center or even our LGBTQIA+ clubs, UndocuDREAMers resources, or Eagles Landing (basic needs resources). I am engaged in our campus community and have served as Puente mentor and member of the Kwanza planning committee. I am an active member of the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Anti-Racist (IDEAA) campus-wide committee, member of the Latinx/Indigenous Alliance, and participate in department and academic senate meetings, hiring panels, and program review. I have recently participated in Culturally Relevant Practices and Standards for Quality Online Teaching professional development (6-week sessions). I have a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Cal State San Bernardino. My dissertation research (graduate-level research project) centered on understanding organizational changes, in a majority Hispanic serving community college, related to student success in transfer-level English, Math, and English as a Second Language courses (AB 705). My master’s degree is in Rhetoric and Composition and my bachelor’s degree is in English Education with an emphasis in Communication. I earned both my MA and BA from Cal Poly Pomona. As I started out professionally, I held jobs such as a restaurant server, administrative assistant, auto insurance adjuster, and writing tutor.
