Background

About Audrey Luben

Originally from Durham, NC, I am a junior College Fellow at Elon University in North Carolina, where I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science with minors in Public Policy, Political Science, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). With a deep-rooted passion for nature, I have always been driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact in environmental policy and regulation. My academic work and research focus on the intersection of environmental science, social equity and urban development. As an undergraduate researcher at Elon, I am currently engaged in a comparative analysis of gentrification in Charlotte and Durham, NC, with an emphasis on race and socioeconomic status, under the mentorship of Dr. Ryan Kirk. This project has deepened my understanding of how urban development and environmental issues intersect, and how policy can drive positive change. In addition to my academic endeavors, I am actively involved in various leadership roles, including serving as the Head Swim Coach at Five Oak Club and contributing to Elon Club Swim. I also take pride in giving back to my community, having worked with organizations like Kids Voting Durham to engage youth in local politics and civic engagement. Upon graduation, I hope to work for an organization where I can apply my knowledge of environmental science, urban planning, and GIS to shape policies that create sustainable, equitable cities. Whether working in government, private sector, or nonprofit organizations, I am excited to leverage my skills to contribute to building a more sustainable future. When I am not immersed in my studies or community work, you can find me enjoying the outdoors, practicing hot yoga, or trying new foods.
