I am a naturalized US citizen with more than 25 years of experience as senior manager in in limited resource countries, in both conflict or post conflict situations, providing medical care and developing and managing multidisciplinary teams for the prevention and treatment of diseases, as well as building sustainable institutional and human resource capacity through educational programs. Education: After receiving my medical degree (MD) in Mozambique in 1980 and working in rural and urban medical settings for several years, I finished my Master of Science in Public Health degree (epidemiology/biostatistics) at the University of Hawaii in 1992. Subsequently I had extensive experience with MCH/FP, infectious diseases, malaria, TB and especially HIV/AIDS in limited resource countries. Leadership and Strategic Planning & Program Management During my career as senior manager, I provided strategic thinking skills and translated these skills into flawless operational plans, ensuring that the organization I was managing had a competitive advantage and implemented best practices, and built team work spirit to achieve the vision and strategic goals and objectives pre established. Knowledge (Business development) I have also a vast experience in business development, strongly developed during my years in academia. I helped produce proposals as assigned, ensuring that proposals meet funder specifications and deadlines according to the University quality standards, including the IRB. Language Proficiency & Communications Skills I am fluent in English (4R/4S), French (4R/4S) and Portuguese (native), and have a good working knowledge of Spanish. I am an effective and proven leader even in stressful situations with skills in business development, program management, M&E, multicultural team building, project design and oversight.
