About Austin MacIel

A graduate of Chapman University's Argyros School of Business and Dodge College of Film and Media Arts with a passion for business, technology, and entertainment, and the points at which those worlds collide. With a wide variety of interests and experience and an insatiable curiosity, I enjoy applying my diverse skill sets in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment where I can learn quickly and am pushed to perform my best. My love of film and TV, as well as my creative taste, stems much from my father's influence. In my early teens, we visited Blockbuster 3-4 times a week and watched movies far past my bedtime. Sometimes, we would spend an hour after the movie unpacking it, pointing out the creative genius or poking holes in the plot. He taught me the importance of the classics, but championed art that dared to break the rules. Films like The Silence of the Lambs, The Shawshank Redemption, Se7en, What Dreams May Come, The Truman Show, The Sixth Sense, and The Game, became the building blocks for my creative tastes for the rest of my life. They illustrated the power and magic of art; it allows you to see a reflection of yourself in others. My father was a businessman with a passion for the human connection that provides us, and he always encouraged me to feed that side. My creative passions are supplemented with technical skills in math and science, which always came naturally. Hard skills in data and computer sciences have served me well in the digital age, and provide a platform for continuous learning and improvement. I believe there is tremendous opportunity to leverage current and upcoming technologies to greatly improve the content we consume and how we consume it. I want to find myself on the forefront, pushing those boundaries. I've had the privilege of working on a number of great projects in all different stages of production, as well as developed my own project ideas, written scripts and coverage, pitched to a number of producers and executives, and learned from some of the most seasoned professionals in the industry. I support that experience with a business degree that has given me a realistic perspective on the monetization of the entertainment world and where I can add value.
