Background
About Austin Reid
Storytelling is my passion, and I see it as a bridge connecting the past, present, and future. Whether as a historian, policy advocate, or nonprofit professional, I approach every project with a belief in the transformative power of stories to build connections, inspire action, and foster growth. As a historian, I’ve documented the rich histories of Jewish communities across New York and Ohio, helping individuals and families rediscover lost narratives. My research has not only preserved these stories but also reignited connections between generations, drawing out meaning from the past to shape the present and future. In my policy work, I’ve focused on how institutions of higher education and nonprofit organizations strengthen communities and address societal challenges. By securing government grants to protect nonprofits, community centers, and places of worship, I’ve worked to create safe, inclusive spaces that allow people to thrive. My background in student affairs further reflects my dedication to amplifying voices and fostering belonging, having guided hundreds of students to discover and share their own stories. Listening is at the heart of my approach. Whether writing the 81-year history of Ithaca College’s Hillel or preserving stories from southeastern Ohio's coal mining communities, I aim to elevate the voices and values of communities. These histories have not only served as tools for remembrance and community-building but have also provided valuable assets for fundraising, advocacy, and organizational growth. With a Master of Public Administration from Cornell University, I bring a purpose-driven mindset to addressing the unique challenges faced by nonprofits, higher education, and governmental organizations. My work is shaped by my belief in collaboration, intellectual engagement, and a growth-oriented approach. I see every project as an opportunity to cultivate potential and connect people to shared purpose. I believe that storytelling is at its most powerful when it creates impact. Whether through historical research, philanthropy, or advocacy, I am committed to building bridges that transform communities, inspire ethical clarity, and illuminate new possibilities for connection and growth.
