About Ava A.

My journey into law and policy is deeply personal and was shaped by my early life experiences. At almost six years old, I tragically lost my father, an event that ignited my lifelong passion for child advocacy and welfare. For many years, I thought my path would lead me to become an elementary school teacher, driven by my desire to support and guide the next generation. However, my path took an unexpected turn when I began working at a boutique law firm while pursuing my degree in elementary education. That experience opened my eyes to the impact law could have on protecting children and families, shifting my entire educational trajectory and sparking my commitment to law and policy. Today, I’m pursuing a Doctor of Law and Policy degree, with a goal of also attending law school. With nearly a decade of experience in various legal fields, I’ve worked in family law, corporate law, and elder law, across both the for-profit and nonprofit sectors. These experiences have deepened my commitment to creating systemic change that benefits vulnerable communities, especially children, and families, and have fueled my passion for advocating for justice through law and policy. In addition to my legal pursuits, I’m still passionate about education. I’ve worked as an educator in elementary schools, community colleges, and soon, undergraduate-level courses. Teaching has taught me the power of knowledge and mentorship, and I bring that same passion for empowering others into my work in law. When I’m not working, volunteering, or studying, you’ll find me at a coffee shop enjoying the atmosphere, getting fresh air, or experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen. I believe in living a balanced life, which helps me stay energized and focused on my mission to make a difference. As I continue my journey, I’m excited to connect with others who share my passion for justice, child welfare, and creating positive change.
