About Ava Bucy

I got hired for my first internship at 15, and the words "I'd rather be busy than bored" practically became my catchphrase. Since then, a dozen jobs and two giant moves later, it still rings true. I’m a third year PhD student at the University of Huddersfield researching fangirls. On top of my study I'm a teaching assistant for the University and serve on several other research projects. I'm an alum of the University of Leeds, where I completed a MA in Social Research and received a Pass with Distinction mark. My dissertation looked at the production of authenticity within celebrity magazine profiles. I also served as the school representative for the School of Sociology and Social Policy, acting as liaison between students and faculty. I did my undergraduate degree at Emerson College, where I created an individually designed interdisciplinary program called Writing and Publishing on Inequality, worked as a research assistant, and was an editor at our Her Campus Chapter.
