About Ava Schulte

I am a passionately curious Journalism graduate from American University that completed Cum Laude in May of 2021. While pursuing a journalism degree, I minored in International Relations, focusing on Race, Gender & Sexuality and Justice, Ethics & Human Rights. Since graduation, I have been focusing on strengthening my communicative outreach both in front of and away from a computer screen. With my waitressing occupations, I am skilled at thinking on my feet and focusing on multiple situations at once with ease. In this position, I work closely with our wine director, specifically in inventory and sales to create the best retail results for our customers and wine subscription members. I have also worked as a social media manager for different home builders in the California Bay Area. Through this position, I kept track of multiple clients' social media channels while offering timely communication and quality graphics to attract more realtors and prospective homeowners. I am well-versed in software such as Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office Suite/365, as well as online tools like Canva. Beyond the classroom and occupational positions, I have done extensive community service hours. Within each work experience, I keep my mind open and honest to see how people connect and why they act the way they do. As I strive for a career in communications, I remember to stay curious within my efforts, such as listening and understanding, delving deeper into conversations with relevant questions, and staying up to date with current events and trends. Keeping my eyes open and vigilant about what is happening around me has helped me progress in the stories or projects I want to create within the intersection of my two greatest passions, the arts and politics. Having a collaborative connection inside and outside of my occupational endeavors is paramount.
