About Avery Alexander

I started out as a kid who couldn't remember to return her school library books. Now, I hold a masters degree in Library and Information Science. Obviously, those books that I was constantly fined for were the stepping stones to my professional career. However, it turns out that there is so much more to libraries than I ever knew as a child. Today, I am well equipped and eager to face the multifaceted responsibilities and challenges of public librarianship. I have a passion for Readers' Advisory and a willingness to engage with all people. I want to connect with my community members and understand what they like, what they value, and how they experience the world from their perspectives. This connection is at the core of what I love to do, and what I hope to bring to whatever professional environment I am a part of. The other core of what I do is sharing and protecting stories. Humans have benefitted from stories since the beginning of our existence, and it is crucial that we shield and share this spark of humanity far into the future. That is what librarianship means to me: Connection, stories, and people.
