About Avery Hudson

For as long as I can remember, I have been intrigued by the human mind. This curiosity led me to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Honours Psychology from MacEwan University. Overall, my time at MacEwan has provided me with a variety of opportunities to develop various skills that will ultimately assist me in reaching my future academic aspirations of attending medical school. MacEwan has advanced my knowledge of brain anatomy and physiology through courses such as Human Neuropsychology and Neuropharmacology. After completing courses such as Advanced Research Methods, Lab in Perception, and Lab in Cognition, I am confident in my ability to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and write a scientific research paper. Additionally, various senior-level psychology classes provided me with experience in public speaking and facilitating presentations for multiple audiences, including preparing an interactive demonstration for junior high students. Academics aside, for several years, I have worked as a MacEwan First Year Mentor for incoming first-year students, assisting students in their transition to university, endowing me to enhance my active listening skills and problem-solving capabilities. Additionally, I volunteered as president of the Autism Acceptance Club, striving to promote education and reduce stigmatism related to autism on campus, where I developed effective leadership and communication skills. Regarding research, my particular interests lie within the realm of cognitive neuroscience involving perception and visuomotor control. I worked as a research assistant for the Action and Perception Lab at MacEwan, where I assisted in collecting data and data analysis. Currently, I am working on my undergraduate thesis on visuomotor inhibition using EEG technology, which I will present at Student Research Day. As an honours student, I am eager to engage in impactful research in psychology, which will support my goal of pursuing a career as a medical doctor.
