About Avinandan Mukherjee

Dr. Avinandan (Avi) Mukherjee is the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Marshall University. In this role, Avi is responsible for all Academic Affairs, including ten colleges / schools, Aviation, Student Affairs, Research, and Enrollment Management, with 564 full-time faculty and 370 staff/administrators. Two vice presidents (VP research, VP for student and intercultural affairs), the associate provost, the assistant provost, three associate vice presidents, nine academic deans, the dean of admissions and enrollment services, and the new Division of Aviation all report directly to the Provost. He is responsible for $97.5M in academic expenditures and slightly over $50M in research expenditures. As Dean of the AACSB-accredited Lewis College of Business at Marshall University, Avi has managed the entire College of Business as the chief academic, financial, personnel and administrative officer, responsible for faculty, students, curriculum, budgets, and external engagement. Before Marshall, Dr. Mukherjee was the Dean of the College of Business at Clayton State University in Metro Atlanta. Some of his major accomplishments as Dean include: six new international partnerships; successful five year Maintenance of Accreditation by AACSB International in 2016; new Global Business Advisory Council (GBAC); new Dean's Distinguished Speaker Series with CEO-level speakers on campus; introduction of seven new academic programs including MBA concentrations in Human Resource Leadership, and Sports and Entertainment Management; and record enrollment growth and fund-raising. Before his Deanship, Avi has been the Chairperson of the Marketing Department in the School of Business at Montclair State University, New Jersey. In that role, he led a multi-pronged comprehensive transformation of the department, which resulted in the Marketing Department becoming the largest department in the school by number of programs and number of graduating students. Avi has a uniquely international academic and professional background, having taught as full-time or visiting faculty in as many as 16 countries. He has authored one scholarly book and more than 100 scholarly articles in leading peer-reviewed scholarly journals. His published research have been cited more than times. Avi is the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Marketing. He has served on several boards, directed executive development programs and consulted with companies in USA, UK, Denmark, India, Bangladesh, Singapore and Malaysia.
