About Avril Tanner

My 26 years of working for the City of Kitchener in the Information Technology Division and within the Planning Department have provided me with numerous opportunities to facilitate and support many large special projects, some acting as Project Manager. A number of these projects have also been cross departmental and offered the opportunity to gain knowledge on the majority of City department processes. Through my project work in the IT Division as well as my work on the Kitchener Operations Facility I have been involved in development of disaster recovery processes and development of technical back-up solutions. During the move of staff from multiple facilities to the new Consolidated Maintenance Facility I facilitated sessions with staff to develop Business Continuity Plans to ensure required services continued during the moving process. In addition to my current role in the Information Technology Division I received my designation as a CEMC (Community Emergency Management Coordinator) in October of 2012 and have filled both the CEMC and Alternate CEMC roles for the City of Kitchener since then. I have been involved in all aspects of implementing Emergency Planning for the City of Kitchener. Some of the most rewarding aspects of my job have been in the Emergency Management field and include Planning for the Resettlement of Syrian new comers to our Community as well as building community partnerships and working with the Community partners to create a Region-Wide Public Education Program on Emergency Preparedness.
