About Ayan Dasvarma

I am a proud gay man, second-generation migrant and person of colour. As the School and Institute Manager at the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute, I lead and coordinate teams across multiple corporate and operational service functions to enable the Institute's research, education and engagement success. I have over 20 years of experience as a leader and manager in the Australian tertiary education and medical research sectors, building on previous training and work as a medical researcher in Australia and the UK.Alongside my work in the tertiary education and medical research sectors, I have many years of experience in community service, advocacy and development in Melbourne's LGBTQIA+ community. I am a Director of Pride Foundation Australia and have previously held roles in many other community organisations. I have also held roles in several significant arts organisations in event development and delivery. I undertake capacity-building in both professional and community spheres as an active leader on multiple committees and groups. I carry out my work, service and advocacy with respect and accountability, continually learning from and striving for equity, inclusion and agency for diverse groups and individuals, including those impacted by structural inequalities and discrimination.
