Dr AN Shabalala obtained her PhD in Civil Engineering (focusing on the remediation of acid mine drainage) from the University of Johannesburg. She is currently a senior lecturer and programme leader for the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences degree programme at the University of Mpumalanga. Her research interests includes the development of low-cost and low-maintenance technologies for polluted mine waters, designing and implementing green infrastructure solutions that can act as buffers against risks arising from climate change.
