About Aydin Enez

I am a postdoctoral research fellow with the Centre for Regional and Rural Futures (CeRRF) at Deakin University. Currently, I work on multiple research projects that investigate the use of sustainable soil amendments to boost soil health and crop yields, whilst helping to mitigate climate change. Some of the alternative soil amendments I currently work with include:• Glacial rock flour, particularly for its potential to boost soil health through enhanced rock weathering processes. • Biochar• Bioprill• Compost• Beneficial microbial inoculantsI’m also involved with projects that aim to quantify and reduce the loads of soil borne pests and diseases (e.g. fungi, oomycetes, and nematodes) using a combination of molecular methods such as qPCR and improving agroecological practices (e.g. intercropping). Similarly, I am also involved in projects looking to improve resilience of pastures to eliminate the summer feed gap for the grazing industry, reducing their susceptibility to drought and climate change. For me, the highlights of working in the soil health space are that I have the opportunity to help resolve real world issues with food security and climate change, am able to work with different groups of people from a local level to the international scale, and also be a mentor for students and colleagues as part of my role.
