About Ayush Suhane

I am an accomplished Materials Engineer with over 8 years of experience specializing in scientific computing, alloy design, and numerical modeling of physical processes. My interests extend to sustainable materials development, where I aim to make a positive impact. Currently pursuing my Ph.D, I am investigating the role of impurities on the microstructure evolution in metals by combining atomistic scale simulations with microstructure models using Density Functional Theory and Phase Field methods. This research has resulted in three first-author publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals, where I have effectively communicated the findings. Previously, as a Systems Researcher at Tata Research Development and Design Centre, I led a team in developing numerical models to simulate phase transformation during the continuous casting of steels. Using an in-house Integrated Computational Materials Engineering platform, I helped implementing and documenting the horizontal integration of unit processes during casting in steel. I have also had the opportunity to expand my skill set by participating in the Google Summer of Code and Sustainability Scholars' Program at UBC. During this time, I contributed to improving the performance of the MDAnalysis package by a factor of 10 for distance calculations by implementing faster algorithms in python and cython, and wrote unit tests for stable code development. Additionally, I developed a graphical user interface that automates the data extraction from energy reports submitted to the municipalities in British Columbia.
