Background

About Azfar Adib

Collective thinking and knowledge mobilization are my principal motto. I am passionate about empowering people towards betterment, specially through the right use of digital technologies. During my 8.5 years long career in a top telecom in South Asia in different techno-commercial roles, I had the scope to contribute in launching and mass popularization of different technological products (like: 2G, 3G, 4G mobile broadband services, internet-of-things). For my ongoing doctoral research, I am addressing a concurrent social need for age-verification through AI based innovation. These experiences helped me to develop my analytical, innovation and policy analysis capabilities. Having a bachelors degree in electrical engineering,followed by an MBA in Marketing, and then doctoral research with AI technologies- I have been exposed through diverse learning. For instance, MBA education taught me to collaborate and think beyond. That was the key essence of my leadership roles, both in professional and in community spheres. I have worked as a leadership trainer and technical communication instructor in university level. My greatest pleasure comes in connecting general people with technological advancements. I have a broad portfolio of tech-based writing (50+articles), STEM outreach and public speaking activities. I was the founder of the first news magazine-forum in Bangladesh to promote smart technologies. Currently I am leading activities (world's largest tech forum) for 2700+ engineering students in 113 branches across Canada. For my doctoral research, I am using cutting-edge machine learning and signal processing technologies to analyze ECG (Electrocardiogram) signal for age-verification. Recently, after Senate of Canada passed bill S-203 about age-verification, I got invited and acknowledged in the Senate Chamber. I have received 10+ grants and awards, for my academic research, professional contribution and community endeavors. I am a Senior Member in the highest grade for which a member may apply after gaining extensive experience and professional accomplishment. I also have been selected as a Public Scholar by Concordia for 2023-24. This award is usually given to the most accomplished doctoral students who are entrusted to share their innovative research with the wider public. Based on my professional experience, academic learning, community engagement and self-passion; I look forward to contribute towards policy consultancy regarding digital ID, age-verification and AI ethics; and importantly as a technology evangelist.
