About Azka Arshad
I am a fourth-year Ph.D. candidate in Chemistry at North Carolina State University, working under the mentorship of Prof. Felix N. Castellano. As part of the NSF CCI: Center for Accelerated Photocatalysis (CAPS), my research focuses on developing automated platforms that combine high-throughput photochemical experimentation, robotics, and machine learning to accelerate the discovery of new photo(bio)catalytic transformations and photostable materials. My work leverages advanced time-resolved spectroscopy — including nanosecond and ultrafast transient absorption — to probe excited-state dynamics and uncover reaction mechanisms. In parallel, I study the photophysics and photochemistry of photosensitizers involved in homomolecular triplet–triplet annihilation (TTA), with applications in solar energy conversion and free radical polymerizations. I am passionate about integrating automation and spectroscopy to drive innovation in sustainable photochemical technologies.
