About Azza Cohen

I'm Azza, documentary filmmaker. Currently turning my lens towards our fierce, historic Vice President Kamala Harris. Follow @vp and @whitehouse to see our work. My latest film FLOAT! follows my 82-year-old Bubbe learning to swim. You can watch it streaming on The New Yorker here: FLOAT! is currently on the festival circuit, winning Best Documentary & Audience Choice at DC Shorts, and first place at FLICKERS' Rhode Island International Film Festival for new voices by a woman director. As a director, I have extensive experience directing on-camera interviews, with interviewees ranging from sitting United States Senators, a former South African Supreme Court Justice, distinguished academics and authors, ex-paramilitary fighters, gun violence survivors, activists, and more. I have worked on many types of visual media, from feature documentaries to docu-series, from Democratic political ads to music videos. I've delivered projects to Netflix, HBO, and National Geographic. I made my first film, Refugee, Refugee, in college - a micro documentary profiling a Rwandan refugee adjusting to life in Trenton, NJ. My second film, Specks of Dust, follows a group of activists fighting human trafficking in India. It garnered awards and funding from the Kathryn Davis Foundation, Dalai Lama Fellows, and New York Women in Film & Television, and has been used as part of curricula on human rights and gender studies in high schools and universities around the world.
