About Bailey Hanson

Hi there! I am currently in my fourth year at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with an expected graduation of December 2022. During my time at SIUE, I have held multiple leadership positions that have all required a wide variety of expectations and skillset ranging from managing expenditures to planning social media campaigns and large-scale events. Additionally, I have spent much of my time volunteering and giving back to my community. I am currently volunteering with the Drama Club at the high school I attended and I adore this position because of the challenge it entails due to the broad range of responsibilities. In this position, I collaborate with the Faculty Sponsor to create the program for the shows, sell tickets and T-shirts, publicize the shows within the community (through flyers, social media, and community outreach), help track spending and budget, and seating for over 600 people per show. For recent shows, Covid-19 restrictions brought on a new layer of complexity that required lots of last-minute problem-solving to ensure patrons were safely distanced while also being able to enjoy the show.Upon graduating from SIUE, I plan to pursue a Master's degree and subsequent career in Educational Policy. Much of my time volunteering has been spent in public education and as such, I have gained a strong understanding of the expectations placed upon teachers and the outcomes those expectations have on students due to COVID. Additionally, I have gained an increased awareness to the school-to-prison pipeline in less-fortunate school districts and want to do what I can to help dismantle this.
