About Bani Ratan

Dr. Bani Ratan was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas. She attended Rice University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Biochemistry. She received a Medical Degree from Baylor College of Medicine in 2008. Upon graduating, she attended the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Cornell University, serving as an Administrative Co-Chief in her final year. She joined Baylor College of Medicine in 2015 after three years at Houston Methodist Hospital. She completed the Master Teachers Fellowship Program at Baylor in 2019 and has been awarded the Early Career Faculty Award in Clinical Excellence in 2019, the Women of Excellence Award in 2020, the Norton Rose Fulbright Faculty Excellence Award in Teaching and Evaluation in 2020, and Norton Rose Fulbright Faculty Excellence Award in Educational Research in 2022. She has also served as the Assistant Clerkship Director in the OB/GYN department from 2018-2020. Dr. Ratan is currently an Associate Residency Program Director for the OB/GYN department and the chair of the Graduate Medical Education Residents as Teachers and Educators Subcommittee. She also serves as a peer-reviewer for both Obstetrics & Gynecology and the Journal of Graduate Medical Education. She is currently participating in both the Association of Professors in Gynecology and Obstetrics Scholars and Leaders Program and a three year Executive Doctorate (EdD) in Professional Leadership with an Emphasis in Health Science Education through the University of Houston. Her research interests include teaching and leadership skills development in resident physicians.
