I began my nursing career in medical surgical areas including renal, endocrine, OB/GYN, pulmonary and orthopedic areas of specialty. Spending the first 15 years in med/surg nursing, pursued the next 15 years in Maternal Child Health as an RN/Lactation Consultant on the postpartum unit of St. Joseph Medical Center. After over 30 years of hospital nursing, I switched gears and now practice nursing at Child Care Limited Pediatrics in Kansas City, Missouri. We provide pediatric care to children from birth to 22 years of age with health and wellness management as well as care of the sick child. Responsibilities in the office consist of rooming patients, working up patients for both sick and well visits, assisting in completing necessary forms, administering immunizations and diagnostic screening tests such as O2 sats, hearing, vision and pulmonary functions test as well as running in office laboratory tests such as urinalysis, strep test, throat and urinary cultures, mononucleosis test, blood sugar, influenza and RSV diagnostics. Other duties include administering inhalation therapy, deep suctioning and giving patient instruction in use of inhalers and other self administered medications such as epipens.
