About Barb Smith

Barbara is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Valuation Analyst with over 17 years of experience. As a Tax Partner in CB & H’s Hampton Roads practice, she provides tax planning and preparation services to a variety of closely held businesses and related individuals. Barbara takes a proactive approach to crafting sound and creative strategies to reduce tax liabilities. She specializes in tax consulting for business transactions and reorganizations; federal, state and local tax credits; and cost segregation studies. As a CVA, Barbara also provides business valuations for a variety of purposes, including estate planning and sales or purchases of businesses. With her practical knowledge of ever-changing tax laws, regulations and rulings, Barbara also serves as a tax resource to local, regional and national media, and is a frequent lecturer on topics of interest to small businesses and their owners.Barbara graduated magna cum laude from Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts degree and Phi Beta Kappa membership. Her professional affiliations include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA); the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA); and the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts (NACVA). She is also a board member of the Tidewater Chapter of Certified Public Accountants.In addition, Barbara demonstrates her commitment to the Hampton Roads community through her leadership roles in various community organizations. She is a past president of the Chesapeake Rotary Club, treasurer of the Chesapeake division of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce and a board member for Hampton Roads Estate Planning Council.
