About Barbara Cartledge

Barbara H. Cartledge is Senior Assistant Dean of Academic Programs with the Brock School of Business at Samford University. She directs the academic advising of 700 undergraduate business majors and 150 graduate students in the MBA and MAcc programs. She administers the implementation and application of the majors, programs, and policies in the two arenas of undergraduate and graduate degrees. She oversees the professional development, academic internship and placement of the business students. she teaches the first business class in student's freshman year as well as a Business and Local Poverty class in Jan term. Prior to her academic career, Barbara worked in the telecommunications industry with BellSouth Telecommunications, Inc, in marketing research, new product development and management in the small business sector. She also managed human resource data for CWA contract negotiations and strategic forecasting in BellSouth’s Human Resources organization. In the community she currently serves on the boards of Restoration Academy, Hope Health Clinic and Briarwood Fellows. Previously she served on Vanderbilt’s Birmingham alumni chapter board, Sav-A-Life Board of Directors as Treasurer; a member of Vestavia Hills Mayor’s Education Committee; Junior League of Birmingham sustainer. She is an alumnus of Birmingham MOMENTUM women’s leadership as well as alumnus of Leadership Vestavia Hills. Barbara and her husband, Tom, have two children, Hall and Joan. They live in Birmingham and are members of Briarwood Presbyterian Church.
