About Barbara Cortes

I am currently a graduate from New York University seeking employment. I am interested in various sectors of public policy, especially that which involves public health. However, I am inclined towards other social issues, including poverty, and have participated as volunteer for the annual HOPE in previous years. HOPE (Homeless Outreach Population Estimate) is yearly effort made by the Department of Homeless Services to gather information involving the New York City homeless population. In reference to beginning my career, I am open to a variety of opportunities to which I can contribute my skills and develop others. During my academic career at New York University, I managed to maintain superior grades while volunteering, researching and interning for various societies as well as institutions. As a result of my experiences, I have developed and strengthened various leadership characteristics while obtaining knowledge in a multitude of subjects. In addition, I have become accustomed to working in fast paced settings that require me to multitask and be adaptable. I am comfortable speaking in Spanish, English and French in almost any setting. I also have a wide array of experiences involving cultural diversity and diversity training. As a result of my experience in public health, I have thorough knowledge about social services and the social determinants of health. In addition, I have extensive experience in hospital settings, thus have a thorough understanding of hospital operation and management. I also have been involved in various student leadership activities and will be serving as Campus Ambassador for New York University at this year's 7th Annual Millennium Conference at the United Nations.
