Background
About Barbara Kahula
I am an enrolled citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, with Chahta and Irish heritage. Raised in Alaska on Dena'ina Lands, I earned a B.B.A. in Accounting and an MBA from the University of Alaska Anchorage, with a focus in Indigenous rights and values in business. As a first-generation college graduate and 2024 Spring UAA graduate student speaker, I am committed to fostering equity and empowerment through my expertise and advocacy. I currently serve as the Director of Finance & Accounting for Native Movement, which has been the perfect opportunity to blend my Indigenous values and perspectives with the western business skills I gained during my time at UAA. My background in tax accounting shaped my passion for individual financial literacy and wellness, while emphasizing the importance of ethical business practices rooted in Indigenous knowledge and values. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors, appreciating Alaska’s stunning landscapes and the many recreation opportunities they offer.
