About Barbara Leach

I am an accomplished Human Resources management professional, and a former President, Treasurer, Director of Marketing, and Webmaster for the Hampton Roads Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). I have broad HR and business experience within diverse non-profit and for-profit companies and in HR consulting. I am exceptionally detail oriented, and an outstanding problem solver, program developer, trainer, and communicator. I am viewed as a trusted and competent resource on virtually all HR issues and teach seminars on HR for candidates preparing to take the examinations for the PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, and SHRM-SCP certifications. My experience includes creating, implementing, and managing initiatives that attract, motivate, and retain human capital. I am exceptionally skilled with employee relations, benefits and compensation administration, recruiting and staffing, legal compliance, total rewards, training, onboarding, and employee engagement. I am especially proficient in developing and implementing initiatives to improve employee morale and reduce turnover. I believe in education, teambuilding, cross training, the sharing of information, and a cordial and “open-door” HR philosophy where employees are always welcome to present ideas, or confidentially discuss problems that affect morale or productivity. I am tech savvy, well versed in HR Information Systems (HRIS), and the use of advanced features in Excel. I am a strong advocate of teamwork, diversity, learning and development, and the respectful treatment of customers and staff. I believe in maintaining an environment that stimulates excitement and enthusiasm, and the sharing of knowledge and information.
