About Barbara Merchant

After 30+ years of working as a Design/Drafter in the Survey and Civil Engineering fields, I became a victim of the economy in 2009. During my time unemployed, I turned my hobby of stained glass into a small business venture (Those In Glass Houses.). While creating art in glass, I have continued to look for a job within the Survey and Engineering community and continued my learning of the latest AutoCAD software (Civil3d). After a year of no luck in finding a full time job, I changed my attitude and realized, no one is ready to hire anyone full time but they just might need my expertise on an "as needed" basis. Within a couple of months of taking on this view, I was subcontracting to quite a few local surveying and engineering firms. And as of March 2013, I have returned to full time employment and hopefully will stay that way for some time. I'm still creating my custom stained glass art Specialties: Survey Analyst/Civil Designer in the Surveying and Civil Engineering fields. Areas of strength include knowledge of Survey and Civil Engineering drawings, versatile computer skills, interacting with surveyors, engineers, architects, clients and government agencies as well as work independently. Stained glass art, fused glass art, and mosaic glass art.
