About Barbara Newman Young

I am a professional educator with a diverse educational and academic background holding multiple areas of licensure in academic disciplines and certifications in online teaching and curriculum development and design. At present, professorial duties at Middle Tennessee State University, College of Education, include advising, directing, designing, and teaching graduate classes in the online Specialist in Education Graduate Degree Program (EdS) with Concentration in Culture, Cognition, and the Learning Process (CC/LP) which I designed and implemented in 2010. I am actively engaged in ongoing professional development activities including action research, writing for publication, conference presentation, grant writing/implementation, online curriculum design and implementation, and editorial and review work as well as additional scholarly activities. My experience and educational background include degrees in liberal arts, education, the learning sciences, as well as designing curriculum, and teaching in K-12 and university settings. Licensure areas include English, Spanish, Psychology, History, and Supervision/Administration K-12. Teaching experience includes K-12 settings, teaching Grammar, Composition, and Literature at MTSU, supervising Student Teachers in the Departments of Educational Leadership and Elementary and Special Education at MTSU, and research assistant to Dr. Diane Sawyer, Chair, Katherine Davis Murfree Chair of Excellence in Dyslexic Studies at MTSU.
