About Barbara Palmer

I love seeing “the lightbulb” go off over other people’s heads. I revel in having the opportunity to learn complex new things and teach them in ways that are truthful and reliable, but also engaging and, well, a little bit silly.(I grew up on The Muppets.) When I am in the classroom, using simulations and other hands-on activities (that at least keep students awake most of the time), I love to challenge students' perceptions of American politics and government, while hopefully empowering them to become more engaged citizens. During my 20+ years of experience as an educator, I have been involved in creating a wide variety of organizations that inspire and assist young people in achieving their dreams. For example, as a professor at Baldwin Wallace University, I launched the BW Center for Women and Politics of Ohio. In addition to analyzing Ohio elections, the Center provides students the opportunity to conduct their own original research. It is awesome to see my students’ faces when they see their name in print. As a pre-law advisor, I have worked with over 250 students who have applied to law school. They inspired me to create Applawz, an app that helps students navigate the stressful and complex process of applying to law school. I have served as a featured guest speaker and panelist at universities and other organizations around the world on elections, the American legal system and Constitution, and the importance of getting young women involved in politics.
