Background
About Barclay Knapp
Barclay Knapp has spent the last 35 years pioneering, building, and financing industry leading companies, including six publicly traded companies that became industry leaders in the cellular, cable tv, telephone, wireless, broadband Internet access, and IoT industries. Mr. Knapp is Chairman, CEO and Founder of Hawkwood Group, LLC. Hawkwood performs strategic advisory, investment sourcing, and operating management functions for clients at inflection points in their development. Mr. Knapp and his partners sponsor and take C-level roles in emerging and transitioning companies, with concentrations in TMT, Internet and connectivity, and technology-based services. Via Hawkwood and it's predecessors, Mr. Knapp has been CEO of Clearband, Inc, an early leader in the US wireless ISP space, CEO of Iota Communications, Inc, a pioneering facilities-based IoT company, CEO of AAVAA, Inc, a deep-tech startup in Brain-Computer Interfacing, and presently serves as Chief Strategy Officer of Elauwit Connection, Inc, a leading provider of managed Fiber+WiFi networks for multifamily real estate properties. Prior to forming Hawkwood, Mr. Knapp co-founded and led five companies to multi-billion dollar public valuations: as President and CEO of NTL, Inc; as President and COO of Cellular Communications, Cellular Communications International, and Cellular Communications of Puerto Rico; and as President and CEO of CoreComm/ATX. At NTL, Mr. Knapp built and ran one of the world’s first "triple play" telecoms networks. Now Virgin Media Group, Inc, the company remains the UK's dominant triple play services provider. Mr. Knapp was named Telecommunications Executive of the Year in 1998 by The Financial Times. Mr. Knapp co-founded Cellular Communications, Inc. in 1983, as CFO and later as President and COO. CCI, the first cell company in the U.S. to go public, grew from a start-up to over 1.25 million customers. He also co-founded Cellular Communications International, Inc, and Cellular Communications of Puerto Rico, Inc, both listed on NASDAQ. Mr. Knapp has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in Mathematics from The Johns Hopkins University, where he was also a Trustee from 1997-2009, and is presently a Senior Fellow in both Economics and the University's Center for Financial Economics.
