Barrett Ross is, first and foremost, a problem solver. And his love for programming developed once he realized programming is simply solving problems. He loves working in small-team based environments, and he has the soft-skills and personality to get along with just about anyone- Learn More - Barrett currently works as a Market Research Analyst at Kwekel Companies. This position introduced him to the world of business, and his understanding of the business world is rapidly developing. While this position is primarily lead generation, it's also given him experience and understanding of business software and automation. With goals to be a data scientist, business intelligence analyst, or machine learning engineer, Barrett wants a place where he can use his brain to solve problems, automate processes, improve efficiency, and work towards a goal. Barrett has a wide range of experience with many different technologies, including PowerBI, Excel and the Microsoft Suite, Unity (C#), InDesign scripting (JavaScript) and more. His wide net of experience comes from a love for learning. Barrett has had experience with and is knowledgeable on many programming languages, including: Python (5/5)(Favorite) Ruby (5/5) SQL (4/5) C#(4/5) C++(3/5) JavaScript (2/5) Lua (2/5) Rust (1/5) VBA (1/5) Python, Barrett's first and favorite programming language, was picked up directly through experience at MSU. Doing data analysis both in and out of class, he has experience with packages such as NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib, Pandas, Scikit-learn and others. Barrett uses Python primarily for data science and machine learning. C# is Barrett's second favorite language, and his first exposure to it was through Unity, developing a game with a friend. Later on, he was given the opportunity at Kwekel Companies to dissect and recommend improvements to the company's software. This experience also helped develop his understanding of business software. Barrett has started to use Microsoft’s learning material to teach himself PowerBI. He hopes to achieve a PowerBI Data Analyst Associate certification soon. Barrett graduated from Michigan State University with a BS in two majors, Physics and Astrophysics, and a GPA of 3.6. He participated in plenty of undergraduate opportunities including being a leader in MSU's Astronomy club, doing many research projects, and participating in science outreach.
