About Barry Kitchen

After 19 years throughout the dock system and the Liverpool basin, I have worked my way up from the shop floor when I started on the docks after leaving the Royal Marines. My experiences are within containerization including cellular vessels and working extensively at height. I have worked within general cargo vessels and confined areas and many kinds of bulk cargo vessels. I have managed a workforce of over a 100 employee's at a busy Ro-Ro terminal. I have introduced a fall arrest system still in use to date so all employees were capable of paying out and using the equipment when called upon. As the head of Health & Safety in my current role and head of training, I have written all Training manuals which has set the standard including mandatory courses: Health & Safety Induction,19 regulations Port Operative Induction Fire marshal theory/practical First Aid courses (Life saver/pediatrics/first aid at work/appointed person) Development of the companies requirements: Mooring vessel in/out of the 8 classes/locations within the Liverpool basin including working at height/dolphin stages Teacher training operatives in Fork Lift truck,(various attachments/various S.W.L. up to 64 tonne) Teacher training operatives in Tug Master Quay use Teacher training operatives in Tug Master ships use/confine spaces Straddle carrier teacher training, container handling Teacher training operatives in Gantry container cranes (Lieberhher/Stothart & Pitt/Jumbo/ships derrick/DD 2/mobile/reach) My current Health & Safety role carries responsibilities for developing: Risk Assessments (general) Fire Risk Assessments Assessments controlled within COSHH/PUWER/LOLER/Manual Handling Manual Handling Risk Assessments (personnel) Safe Working Procedures for all employees Method statement procedures, written and delivered Company Health & Safety Policy written/submitted and amended accordingly All Policies Inspections audited/monitored including: Site inspections Health Surveillance
