About Barry Long

After graduating from Virginia Tech, I was employed for 16 years as a Civil Engineer, Environmental Engineer, Forensic Engineer, Transportation Modeler and Software Engineer. My skills include transportation modeling, forensic investigations of commercial and residential structures, field sampling of soil and groundwater, engineering oversight for hazardous waste site remediation, software development, consulting and land surveying. I then returned to college and received a degree in 3D modeling and animation. For the next 13 years I was employed in the 2D/3D Art and Animation industry. Maya, 3DS Max, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects and Flash are the main software programs I used during this time. I designed, modeled, textured, lit, and rendered several trade show exhibit booths; created art and animation for 5-reel video slot machines; made medical animations; and completed freelance work that included 2D animations for clients. I then returned to my civil engineering profession and was working as a Transportation Modeler (Technical Specialist II) for Sarasota County Government. During that time, I reviewed site and development plans, conducted traffic study analyses, and wrote several reports addressing modeling evaluations I ran to forecast future levels of service on the county's roadway network. I am currently employed at GraphiCal Creations Inc. as a Designer.
