About Barry Marks

Barry Marks has been in the human service field for over thirty years. His colleagues and his community have honored him for his professional endeavors and his continued commitment to their well-being. Barry served as President of his community’s Child Abuse and Rape Crisis Center and Mental Health Association. He also served on the Sexual Assault Advisory Committee of the California Office of Criminal Justice Planning. In recognition of his service efforts, the U.S. Air Force conferred upon Barry its “Distinguished Citizen” recognition. Barry presents regularly at professional conferences and has authored several articles. He instructed at the graduate level for the University of California, California State Polytechnic University and Chapman University. Barry’s consultancies include the Kaiser/Permanente Medical Foundation, California Federation of Teachers, March of Dimes, National Association of Forensic Counselors, Center for Collaborative Solutions, and the Pulitzer News Syndicate. He, also, served as a Subject Matter Expert in developing their licensure exams for the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Barry spent a Sabbatical Year in Residence in advanced studies of management systems and education at Harvard. He chaired the International Mentoring Project for the Association for Death Education and Counseling. He holds a Black Belt in Aikido, the non-violent Japanese martial art. Barry recently served as Clinical Prevention/Assessment Specialist for the Rappahannock/Rapidan Community Services Board located in Virginia’s Piedmont region. He also served on the Board of Fauquier County CADRE (Community Alliance for Drug Rehabilitation and Education), the Rappahannock County Prevention Coalition and on the Advisory Board of the Fauquier County Mental Health Association. Barry is a Certified Instructor of the QPR and ASIST suicide prevention trainings and is licensed as an Educational Psychologist. He currently maintains a private practice.
