About Barry O.

For me as a teacher, the social and emotional curriculum is as important as the academic curriculum and how children learn is just as important as what they learn. I strive to know each of my students as individuals and partner with their parent(s) to help my students be their best. I have worked with many young students who have become disinterested in learning math as they progress through elementary school and middle school. These young learners have concluded that math is too difficult and have lost their curiosity about math. I have been able to change their self-perception and show them the exciting world of mathematics and the incredible joy that is realized from solving problems. I am able to rekindle and build on the natural curiosity we are all born with about the fascinating world of numbers, measurements and shapes. I use teacher language that is clear, simple and direct and work with my students to set goals and then help my students meet their goals. After having spent years in the world of business, I see the benefit of creating goals and then setting an intention to meet these goals. My business experience also enables me to know firsthand the dynamics of our changing world and help my students be better prepared to collaborate with other people and deal with change. I work hard to keep all my students properly challenged. I want to be remembered by my students as someone who inspired them to be their best in all situations and find joy, laughter and accomplishment in their lives. I love being immersed in a community of learners.
