About Barry Thornton

Experienced leader, currently Managing Director at Micksgarage.com, one of Ireland's leading and longest established ecommerce sites. Although we specialise in car parts and accessories we have and will continue to expand our range under the "more to explore" banner.Previously I have held many leadership roles across a wide range of product sectors, working for Unilever, Superquinn, Bridgestone and Murdock Builders Merchants. Positions held in these companies include general management, retail, purchasing, sales, marketing and category management roles. Colleagues know me as a driven, energetic, strategic and innovative leader, who understands the importance of engaging and involving people. I firmly believe that if the key people in any organisation work together on a few key strategic priorities strong performance will follow. I always also make sure the customer is at the heart of the strategic direction taken and all decisions made.Outside of work, I am a coach and former Chairman of Blackrock Athletic Club. I am a keen runner and have completed several sub 3 hour marathons. I have also partaken in several endurance events to raise money for a school in the township of Kwanokuthula in South Africa. Most recently myself and a team of athletes ran the equivalent distance to and from the school, over 100 days, raising over for the school. I have Bachelor of Commerce and First Class Master of Business Studies degrees, both from University College Dublin.
