About Barry Whyte

Award winning broadcast journalist with a wealth of experience in radio. I’ve worked in the industry for the past fourteen years. I’ve a hunger and for reporting, I’m driven and I’m ambitious. I’ve also a keen eye for news worthy subjects; I can speak to people and draw out hard answers, and I have gathered many valuable contacts. I joined the team at Newstalk in September 2018, working as a reporter for Newstalk Breakfast, the Pat Kenny Show and The Hard Shoulder with Ivan Yates. Over those two years I’ve covered a variety of topics, which have created debates at a national level. During my time at BBC Radio Foyle I was part of the newsteam that won a Gold Award at the 2016 PPI Awards for our coverage of the Buncrana Pier tragedy; our coverage also won Best News Coverage at the Audio and Radio Industry Awards in Leeds. I played a huge part in our coverage as I was in Buncrana on the evening the tragedy occurred.
