About Bart Frank
Dr. Frank has over 35 years of experience as a molecular biologist and immunologist. His doctoral studies in immunogenetics were pursued in the laboratories of Drs. Doug Vann and Eugene Lance, a student of Nobel laureate Sir Peter Medawar. He completed post-doctoral studies with Dr. James Watson and Dr. George Gutman. His research has included the initial biochemical characterization of human interleukin-2, the molecular evolution of immunoglobulins, the role of HLA and TCR gene products in autoantibody production of rheumatic disease patients, and the structure and function of the various autoantigens in rheumatic diseases. His studies on gene expression profiles in human diseases and include collaborations with other research scientists throughout the world using microarray technoglogy. Dr. Frank has 27 years of laboratory management experience at the OMRF. He reired from OMRF in 2013 and continues to serve as a consultant there in genomics and gene profiling studies. He has been a frequent reviewer for scientific and medical journals, and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical and Cellular Immunology. He has been a member of the American Association of Immunologists, the International Union of Immunological Societies, the American College of Rheumatology, and the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology. He has served as a reviewer on national grant review committees in the US (Department of Veteran Affairs; Lupus Foundation of America), Canada (Arthritis Society of Canada), and the UK (Arthritis Research Campaign). He has served as a scientific consultant for companies in the biotechnology field. He is the co-inventor of 5 products (three patents granted and one pending) dealing with immunologic or molecular biologic aspects of human disease.
