About Bart Niewenweg
Hi! My name is Bart and I am a young, imaginative filmmaker from Amsterdam. Before I moved to the city, I grew up in Joure, Friesland.I make films about subjects that capture the zeitgeist, told from a Dutch perspective. I want to discover stories that, through shame or fear, often go untold. Think of films about mourning, our war past and affairs. Confronting you with subjects that we (including myself) prefer to flee from. I want you to look at facial expressions that we only recognize by times; extreme lengthening of what you normally see in fractions; Creating human (anti)heroes who try to live with shame and pain, as I experience it myself within my family. I have been working as an intern for Veloretti, Oxford House and Halal Film and Photography. In 2018 I gratuated as “Audiovisual Designer” at Cibap in Zwolle and started freelancing on filmsets. Since 2020 I’ve been studying “Audiovisual Media” at the HKU University of the Arts Utrecht.
