Spent 6 years in the US Navy as a Nuclear Machinist Mate where I was responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of the nuclear reactor and its many sub systems. Two years of this experience was in a position where I administrated the military 3M maintenance system for the plant. My responsibilities included record keeping, writing tagouts for work online, interfacing with other departments to facilitate maintenance, planning and scheduling work, and supervising the implementation of maintenance. This experience was all during the periods surrounding Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom and included two deployments overseas to support these operations. After finishing my time in the Navy and being honorably discharged, I worked a temporary job at a call center in New York developing my speaking skills taking reservations for campgrounds nationwide. This job lasted roughly 6 months before I got the opportunity to move to Southwest Michigan to begin work at Palisades Nuclear Power Plant in Michigan. During my time as a Mechanical Repair Worker "A", I have had the opportunity to attend numerous training sessions with outside vendors for the equipment we have on site. These trainings include ALCO diesel engine school with Fairbanks Morse, Air compressor school with Ingersoll Rand, and Motor Operated Valve maintenance with Crane Valve. For the past 2 years I have held the position of SME (Subject Matter Expert) for the Mechanical Maintenance department. The duties of this job include the development, review, and implementation of training for the mechanical department. Implementation phase of the training includes classroom training via lecture, Lab activities to hone hands on skills, and On the Job training and evaluation to qualify mechanical workers on new tasks. In addition to mechanical skills training, I also re-qualify workers on material handling tasks such as Overhead crane operation, rigging, and fork truck operation.
