About Bashar Ammari

I am a PhD Candidate at Carnegie Mellon University under the supervision of Professor Carl Laird. My research focuses generally in the area of process systems engineering, operations research, and machine learning. For my doctoral thesis, I develop methods to integrate machine learning models and mathematical programming for optimal decision-making. During my time at Carnegie Mellon, my skillset has grown to include applied machine learning, discrete and continuous optimization, and software development in addition to fundamental Chemical Engineering principles. Before returning to graduate school, I spent time in the beverage manufacturing industry at Anheuser-Busch. I began as a logistics and operations group manager and was subsequently promoted to the Fairfield Brewery's IT engineering manager. As a group manager, I led large teams for efficient scheduling, shipping and operations. As the IT engineering manager, I was responsible for the brewery's automation, information technology and overall systems infrastructure. Lastly, I am an avid classical music enthusiast and a member of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra’s Jack Heinz Next Gen. I particularly enjoy the works of Gustav Mahler and I attend several orchestral performances throughout the year!
