About Basiru Haliru

I am at the School of Dance at the Romanian Academy of Performing Arts, leading the overall vision and academic development of the Academy since 2018. I have over 30 years of experience in the performing arts industry as a performer, curator, producer, administrator and educator. I am passionate about promoting innovative developments in performing arts production and education, with a particular focus on interdisciplinary collaboration and original creativity. I have held key positions in a number of educational and cultural organizations, including the Authority, where I was responsible for developing the artistic direction and strategy for dance; the Academy for the Performing Arts, where I founded and launched the Centre for Performing Arts Education; and the Dance Alliance, where I served as Chair and led the organization to become a registered charity. I have also developed and sustained excellence in learning and teaching by leading curriculum reviews and external validation, designing and implementing curriculum and assessment frameworks, supervising and mentoring students and staff, and fostering local, regional and international partnerships within and outside the discipline. I am a senior advisor and consultant to a number of organizations and have strong professional connections at all levels
